Fuerteventura

The island of Fuerteventura features the best beaches in the Canary archipelago. They stretch for many miles, and even on the most famous beaches of Fuerteventura, such as Playa de Sotavento, it's possible to enjoy the ocean and the sun in solitude.

Puerto del Rosario is the capital of the island. The airport of Fuerteventura is located not far from Puerto del Rosario.

The Jandia Peninsula in the south of Fuerteventura is a nature reserve separated from the rest of the island. It is almost bordered by vast white sand beaches. There are two tourist resorts in this area: Costa Calma, located near the majestic Playa de Sotavento, and Morro Jable, built around the port from where the jet-foil to Gran Canaria departs.

Fuerteventura means "strong wind", and it is really the windiest island of the Canaries. The wind here blows from the north or north-east. The wind is most reliable in summer, usually in the period from May to August. In winter you need to look for a low pressure system to ensure you will have wind. As regards the waves, in winter they are bigger, since the swell is almost always driven by Atlantic storms.
