Surf Culture

surf culture

Surf culture originated during the 1950s and 1960s, when this sport exploded in popularity, but it continues to this day. The surf culture includes clothing brands and styles, music preferences, films, literature, etc.

Since surfing originates from Hawaii, the culture took a lot from there, for example, beach wear ornamented with hibiscus flowers or hawaiian necklaces. But the surf culture is not only the clothing or other exterior things. It is also the constant search for waves. It is the unforgettable emotions, when you're feeling the power of the wave. It's a style of life.

Classic Surf Films

Endless Summer by Bruce Brown (1966) - is a documentary film about American surfers who follow the summer around the world. The film gave birth to the "surf-and-travel" culture and encouraged many surfers to travel overseas searching for the perfect wave.

Big Wednesday by John Milius (1978) - one of the best surfing-related films ever made.

Point Break directed by Kathryn Bigelow (1991), starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze - the famous movie about surfing bank robbers. On the home page of our site there is a quote from this movie: "Surfing is a stay of mind when you loose yourself and you find yourself..."

Another famous quote from the Point Break is a legend about 50-year storm: "Everything moves the cycle. Twice a century the ocean lets us know just how small we really are... When the storm hits Bells Beach, it'll turn into the biggest surf this planet ever seen..."
